There have been a number of studies done that show young people with a mental illness are more likely to get treatment when given that treatment. The stigma connected with mental disorders isn’t something new. In fact, it’s been around for a very long time. Young people may feel embarrassed to seek treatment for themselves or they may worry that their friends or peers won’t support them in their quest for mental health.
There are many misconceptions about mental illness in children and young people. Because of these misconceptions, it’s often difficult for them to receive the treatment they need to survive and enjoy optimal long-term health. Even if a child or young person does experience mental illness, there are steps they can take to ensure they receive the mental healthcare they need. If a person experiences any of the above mentioned mental illnesses, they should get the proper help right away. Otherwise, they could suffer from some of the same consequences as those who do not experience mental illness.
